IWC presents a new generation of Ingenieur Engineer Watches at Watches & Wonders Geneva in 2023, designed by Gero Zunda and a return to Gerald Genta’s classic 1970s-era Ref.1832.
The 40mm case incorporates vertical drawing, ring drawing and mirror polishing processes, and the carefully reconstructed lines present a softer and smoother profile. The thickness is 10.7mm.
The bezel is secured by five screws, and the ear details and H-shaped bracelet have a new, more ergonomic design for a more comfortable fit on the wrist.
The most special feature of the new watch is that the dial reproduces the “grid” pattern used by the original Ingenieur SL, which is made by stamping intaglio patterns on the base of the iron dial and then galvanized. The pattern consists of thin lines perpendicular to each other, which are imprinted on soft iron billets and then treated by electroplating process. The pattern covers the entire inner area of the dial, while the outer area of the dial that surrounds the minute scale remains smooth. The proportions of the IWC logo and its position on the dial are carefully adjusted to ensure that it is closely aligned with the “grid” pattern. Time marks coated with glow-in-the-dark materials ensure that they remain legible at night
